Today is a special day. Ann and I were married on April 8, 2006.
Ann graciously allowed the ceremony be in my hometown of Deer Creek, MN, population 301, so my family could attend. It was a small, but eventful wedding with family and a few friends in the Lutheran church I grew up in. My uncle, Pastor Del, officiated the ceremony; Aunt Jan and my niece’s sang; Liz played the oboe; and Sam and Ann cried through the service. Oh, and Aunt Dorothy somewhat dramatically collapsed near the end. My brother, Wayne, as a member of the town volunteer fire department and an EMT, jogged down the street a couple blocks, drove the rescue vehicle back to the church, and revived her with oxygen.
My dad gave us a ride around town and back to the family farm with his carriage and team of driving horses, making sure he took us by the “Congratulations Dale and Ann” notice he’d put up on the ‘Welcome to Deer Creek’ sign.
So after 43 years of being single I returned to MA with a wife and two step-children. I must say, from my perspective, life has been great ever since. Those of you that know Ann know what a genuine, caring and kind person she is and I feel very blessed to share her life. She makes me smile and laugh every day and there isn’t anyone I’d rather spend time with in self-quarantine. I hope you too have family or someone special to share life’s experiences.
